Intel Atom processor is preparing for microservers
Intel first confirmed that it plans to bring to market Atom processors for servers. As stated by an American company, new items will be used in uniprocessor systems, but their TDP will not exceed 45 watts
At the moment, known names and specifications of only two models – Xeon E3-1260L (4 cores, 2,4 / 3,3 GHz, 8 MB cache L3, TDP 45 watts) and Xeon E3-1220L (2 cores, 2,2 / 3,4 GHz, 3 MB of cache L3, TDP 20 watts). As you might guess, both models support the technology Turbo Boost. Under the plan Intel, in the second half of this year will be released the third model. It will be based on Sandy Bridge microarchitecture, and have a very low TDP – 15 watts However, this is not the limit, as Intel plans to reduce this figure to 10 watts or even lower. In theory, the first Atom processors with the power to appear in 2012.
