Disaster in Japan affect the release of iPhone and iPad
Everyone knows about the tragic events in Japan, earthquake and tsunami that claimed many lives. Jeffrey Piper (Piper Jaffray), analyst Gene Munster, said that the disaster could significantly delay the delivery of components for iPad 2 and the iPhone 4. Japanese suppliers of Apple can not accurately determine the losses which they suffered, and could not say when production will resume produced. The two companies are particularly important for Apple – Toshiba and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical.
The company Mitsubishi is a major supplier of epoxy resins BT, is used to print on cards. The company temporarily closed because of damage caused by the earthquake. Stopped for the same reason as Toshiba can not supply flash memory provided by Apple, and yet its share of these shipments was 40 percent!
Analysts Munster came to the disappointing conclusion that delivery delays may last until the end of June. For the Apple these developments will lead to a decrease in profit is because a reduction in sales volume in Japan.
