It was the serene summer of 2009. The Hubble Space Telescope was fixed, Helio Castroneves won a Indy 500, Somali pirates were really you do their thing, as well as Linksys decided it was time to pull a block on the DMA2100 as well as DMA2200 Media Center Extenders. Production was ceased and that was which… or so you suspicion. Now we’re hearing dozens of reports which those extenders mysteriously stopped working over a past couple of days, as well as in truth the thread over at The Green Button is full of hundreds justly discontented users. Thanks to the lot of investigations by members it’s been determined that the boxes are trying to dial home to an residence which no longer exists. Naturally this is causing wild speculation about DRM checks as well as the boxes being remotely infirm, but for right away there have been a little primer work-arounds, including configuring your router to explicitly retard any trade from a Extender or simply allot an shabby gateway. This seems to work for many, though not for all. We’re just days divided from Logitech unveiling the Google TV hardware lineup, but now VP Eric Kintz is saying that’s not all a association will have to uncover. You may recollect that Logitech acquired LifeSize Communications late final year, the association specializing in corporate HD video conferencing, as well as now that record will be coming to a vital room. Logi isn’t phenomenon details nonetheless, but whatever resolution it offers will be compatible with Google TV as well as, since that Logitech’s C910 webcam was recently postulated SkypeHD compatibility, we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some arrange of tie-in there. Hardware cost is different but no monthly fee will be charged, contrasting with Cisco’s rumored solution — coincidentally also said to be denounced upon Weds. According to The Wall Street Journal Cisco’s HD conferencing choice will cost the whopping $600 as well as, upon top of that, will require the $30 monthly price. That seems somewhat outrageously priced for the one pretence hack, so here’s to anticipating there’s more to it than which.

Cisco is positively no foreigner to the telepresence world, charity the high-end complement catering to your high-paid CEO and his high-def boardroom. However, that doesn’t do Ma and Pa Internet User most great when they wish to dial up their brood as well as see how a grandkids are faring. At a press conference scheduled a single week from currently, the device as well as use have been approaching to be unveiled with a price between $200 and $500 (depending upon carrier subsidies) which will enable easy high-def video job — something SkypeHD and others do today, though ancillary inclination have been delayed to find success. What will this device look similar to? Well, Cisco Senior VP Marthin De Beer pronounced progressing this year: “We didn’t buy Flip to have it be usually a video tape deck.” He also said: “We would positively adore to integrate with FaceTime.” That latter bit sounds the small confident, though high-def telepresence that’s as elementary to use as the Flip HD? We first saw the Cisco FlipShare TV hit the FCC just over a month ago, and now that’s it’s official (well, official in the sense that Walt Mossberg broke the embargo by two hours) we’re still sort of underwhelmed and a little befuddled — although it’s made by Cisco, the Flip-focused media player doesn’t actually connect to your home WiFi network. Instead, the FlipShare software transmits data from your computer using a proprietary USB dongle, which means the player itself is useless unless your computer is on with Flip’s funky FlipShare software running and the dongle connected. Flip tells us the decision to go proprietary was made to make things easier for non-technical u sers to set up (like Flip’s cameras, the FlipShare software is preloaded on the dongle) but we can’t help but think i t’s actually a bit more complicated, since Gran won’t be able to just turn the thing on and subscribe to yo ur new Flip user channels enabled by FlipShare 5.0. Instead, she’ll have to get out her laptop, plug in the dongle, launch the software (which pulls the content from the internet), and then start using the FlipShare TV’s RF remote to get at your videos, which seems pretty complicated to us. Yeah, we’re just not sure, especially at $149 — we’ve actually got one here for review, we’l l let you know how we feel in the next couple days.

FlipShare TV Wirelessly Beams Toss Movies To Your TV

Looks like we were spot on when it came to the leaked info and pics of the FlipShare TV.  As we assumed it won’t need to connect to your home’s Internet connection.  Instead it will utilize its own wireless 802.11n USB dongle to transmit your Flip ca mcorder movies from your computer to your TV.  But despite not requiring a home network or Internet connection, the FlipShare TV can connect with other Flip Share users enabling you to watch their ’shared’ clips.  But before you get too excited its safe to assume that the ’shared videos’ are via your laptop’s Internet connection and not directly on the FlipShare TV.  I’d also guess that Cisco will launch a wireless Flip camcorder at CES 2010, but that’s pure speculation.
